Choices
Choices
12/05/10
A friend got me thinking about choices this week. I had to choose an outfit for a special occasion. We went into several shops and tried on what seemed to be hundreds of tops, skirts, dresses and jackets before I finally chose one.
From the moment we get up in the morning to the moment we lay our heads down on our pillows we will probably have made hundreds, maybe even thousands, of choices.
Life is filled with choices. There are some choices that probably don't mean a lot, while other choices mean a whole lot. A wise man once said that we make our choices, and our choices make us. In other words, if you want to grow spiritually, you will. And if you don't want to grow spiritually, you won't. Either you will go forward as a Christian, or you will go backward.
I believe the reason some Christians seem to be more like Christ, while others who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ do not exhibit His characteristics in any major way, actually comes down to choices. It is not about luck or talent or intelligence or something that happens randomly. It is because people make the right choice. There are choices that will prevent our spiritual growth and there are choices that will enhance it. The most important choice we make that will affect how we live, love, learn and laugh is to be connected to Jesus each day.
That is why we all need to make a commitment to seek to grow spiritually on a daily basis – not to just be satisfied with the status quo but to gain ground in our relationship with Christ. Practically this will require that we choose to set time aside each day where we can spend quality time with God as a family (or individually) in Bible reading and prayer.
I would like to recommend that you choose to join one of our Watering Hole Life Groups where we choose to help each other discover more about God and help each other to make choices each day that enhance that relationship. Why not make the choice in the coming week to commit ourselves to spiritual growth and becoming more like Jesus.
