Happy New Year
“Do not pursue happiness; it cannot be caught, like a cold or bouncing ball.
It is not found in fads or trends;
Nor will it reward you for meeting others’ expectations.

My new kitchen

My new kitchen
Having recently moved house I knew I needed a new kitchen. But, before the new kitchen could be installed, a door and window would have to come out,
the boiler replaced and repositioned which then meant adjustments to the shower and upstairs radiators. The whole job seemed to be getting more complicated, messy and expensive by the minute.
After four weeks of mess, muddle and chaos I am just beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. A few days ago I started using my brand new cooker - simple, home-cooked food never tasted so good after endless trips to the chip shop, Pizza Hut and Chinese take-aways. I thought I would never get tired of running my hands over the shiny new worktops and turning on fancy new taps BUT already I seem to be taking them for granted and the buzz is fading. The only thing that is not fading away is the bank loan to make all this possible!
In John chapter 6 Jesus suggests that we need to focus our attention, time and money on things that will have lasting appeal. He invites us to check out, then dare to begin, a life spent in a friendship with Him that will deeply satisfy and bring lasting benefits.

Not a World Cup fan

Not a World Cup fan
IT IS FINISHED! The World Cup is over.
The World Cup is the most important competition in international football and is closely followed by nations all over the world. More than 160 national teams have competed to qualify as one of the 32 teams that took part in the finals in South Africa. Coverage of all the matches have been messing with my favourite scheduled programmes for weeks! If you are not a sport fan, has there been anything on TV for you in the last weeks?

Whether you are a fan or not you cannot have avoided hearing all the controversy over bad decisions both on and off the pitch. If we are honest we will admit that bad decisions do not only happen during football matches but are a fact of life. They come at us in different ways: The employer who acknowledges or promotes the wrong person, the teenager who blames everyone else for their own bad behaviour, the church member who always finds fault in everything the pastor does. The result is that sometimes you get a bad deal – you deserve credit, but credit doesn't come your way, thanks to someone else's bad judgment.
I am sure it has happened to you before, and it will certainly happen again. In this respect Jesus is without a doubt our perfect example. When wrongly judged we are encouraged not to lash out or lose heart. Instead we are called upon to keep doing what God has called us to do. We are encouraged to do our job with excellence, even when we have to deal with unfairness along the way.
Jesus also said, “it is finished”. His statement highlighted a great decision by God to stay involved and connected to the human race. When Jesus said, “it is finished” He was relieved over something far more than the end of the world cup. He was triumphantly announcing that a plan to reunite God and humans in a perfect, trouble free world had been completed. No more bad decisions, disappointments or mistakes. SOMETHING THAT INCLUDES EVERYBODY - NO LOSERS - I like the sound of that!
