A New Year: Time to Take Stock

Another year. What will it hold? Will it be more of the same old, same old or will it be better than 2014? This year, I hope is going to be better than last year when I lost my father, my husband was in hospital and I had a cancer scare.

I don’t know about you, but making New Year’s resolutions doesn’t seem to be high on mine or other peoples agendas as it used to be. I cannot think of any reason why I stopped making them. It is after all a good time to take stock of your life. Maybe, like me, you are tired of making them and then breaking them even before the end of the first month.

As a Christian I also want to take stock of my faith and the quality of my relationship with God. It is so easy to get busy with all the stuff life throws at us that there never seems to be any time to do this.

I really hope that in 2015 I will enjoy a better relationship with God than ever before. I have no idea what 2015 will bring but I believe that He does and that He offers to be with me whatever life is going to throw at me.

How can that happen? I believe by keeping my eye on Jesus through reading the recorded events of his life and by thinking of how these relate to my life now. I hope that I can then talk things through with Him in prayer, and talk my findings through with others who are also reading about Jesus. That’s what I want, but what about what God wants for me this year?

In one place in the Bible it tells me what God wants and that is for me to be serious about my relationship with God and be actively involved in compassion, justice and things that make life better for those around me. Sounds like a plan.

So I’ll let you know how I do and why don’t you drop me a line and let me know how you are doing. Together why don’t we keep our eye on Jesus and enjoy doing what He wants and see what that does to our 2015.

I am going to claim for myself a promise that God gave to people ages ago. It is found in Deuteronomy chapter 31 verse 8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

A Happy New Year.
