The Story: Courage

This week we look at one of my favourite stories from the Bible; the story of Esther. She was a Jewish girl, selected through means of a beauty contest, who became a queen who then dramatically saves the Jewish nation from genocide. It’s real rags to riches story for those of us who are romantics.

Once more we discover that God is working behind the scenes to fulfil his grand purpose, which is to renew a personal saving relationship with every person who has ever lived on this planet.

With Esther’s story we also see people who are prepared to take a courageous stand and do what is right even if it costs them personally. There are other characters in this story as well. I wonder which of them we most identify with and what we will take from this chapter that will help in our relationship with God and impact the way we treat others?

How do we react when our faith is threatened? How do we respond when we hear of injustice? What kind of moral compass helps us when opportunities come to advance our careers, maybe at the expense of others? All these questions and more appear in chapter 20 of The Story. Why not read it for yourself or better still read the complete book of Esther in the Bible? It’s only a short one.
