The Story: Ruth

Ruth, a lady with everything stacked against her who overcomes overwhelming odds to survive and then finds love; sounds like the plot for a best seller, doesn’t it?

Some people seem to sail through life with little happening to them but not Ruth. What could happen to her did, but there is an unexpected twist in the tale. Read it for yourself this week in chapter 9 of The Story or in the book of Ruth in the Bible.

As I read her story I also saw a God who has a plan for something better for her life; a God who doesn’t abandon her or turn her away because she has the wrong hair colour of cultural pedigree. That gave me hope for those impossible moments in my life when everything seems to be going against me.

As I read her story I sensed how difficult it was for her to become accepted and feel part of a community. Even in Calmore there are a lot of lonely people who feel like outsiders or who think no-one cares for them. I believe that God calls us to be agents of inclusivity on His behalf. There are some really friendly words in Psalms 68:6 which says, “God sets the lonely in families”.

Who could you help feel noticed and valued this week?
