Thought for Christmas – December 17

Yesterday I spent some time wrapping presents.

What are we saying when we give a gift?

I think gifts convey several messages. Gifts can be given for the purpose of strengthening relationships, or mending a broken one. They can also  be seen as a symbol of good will. Some people might give gifts to convey a message about their economic or social status.

It got me thinking about some words in the Bible that say “thanks be to God for His indescribable gift”. What is it that God has given us that is so amazing?

This is a huge subject and could take libraries of books to adequately answer. But how about thinking about it from just a couple of angles?  I believe God the Father gave us Jesus as a gift to mend a broken relationship between us and Himself. Also on a very practical level if I look once again to the Bible for the answers to my question I discover that God offers to give each person, “ love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” I wonder what those gifts would look like unwrapped on Christmas morning?
