You can make a difference in a team

Easter weekend I had an amazing time watching 158 people hunting for eggs. You may ask what was so amazing about that? Let me tell you – people were helping other people pointing out where to find the egg tokens and where the clues were. It even went further than that as people handed over vouchers to complete strangers so they could also exchange them for Cadbury’s Creme Eggs or Lindt Chocolate Bunnies.

Now come on you have to admit that this is not behaviour we are used to seeing. Later on Facebook comments were posted saying how much this sense of the community having fun and working together meant to them.

There is a saying that many hands make light work and it was many people volunteering their time that made last week’s egg hunt such a success. The truth of this statement is that more can be achieved working together as a team than individually. Leaders like Bill Gates (Microsoft founder), Steve Jobs (Apple founder) and many others may be seen by us as great achievers but they would probably be the first to admit that their success in life was a team effort.

Life is all about team work. Family is a team. Corporations run on the basis of teamwork. Athletes excel because of teamwork. Jesus even modelled the benefits of teamwork  as he worked with a team to make a difference in the communities He visited. A team, or body of people working together for the good of others and learning to be in a stronger relationship with God was His plan of what church should be. Solomon, thought to be the wisest man who ever lived, had this to say on the subject:

“Two can stand back to back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple braided cord is not easily broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

In the Watering Hole we value the contribution that individuals make but it is together that we can make a difference. Opportunities exist to donate your time and talents on a one off basis or as part of a team on a regular basis. Contact us or visit the Random Acts of Kindness page to find out more about these opportunities. You can also call 07941 903257 if you prefer to talk to a human.

Volunteering is fun, puts a smile on someone else’s face that then bounces back and puts an even bigger smile on your own face.

Do you want to accomplish more each day? Then resist the temptation to do everything on your own. Remember, God’s advice for life is that it is more rewarding if it is lived with others and not just for yourself.
